The safest verbs are erleben, suchen, beginnen, bestehen, and sich auf etwas einlassen. These verbs make Abenteuer active: someone has, seeks, starts, or accepts an experience with uncertainty.
Be careful with tone. Abenteuer can sound positive and exciting, but in contexts such as ein finanzielles Abenteuer or ein politisches Abenteuer it can suggest risk, recklessness, or a decision that is not fully safe.
